Tom Moser

Hartington, Nebraska

Tom Moser is a Nebraska native, raised on a farm near Plainview in Northeast Nebraska. He took over running the family farm at age 20 when his father died of a heart attack, but eventually returned to University of Nebraska where he received a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Natural Resources. He worked his way through college with part time jobs at Nebraska Game & Parks Commission where he gained experience in horticulture and land management. He was hired as the first District Manager for the Lewis & Clark Natural Resources District (NRD) in Hartington, NE, on April 1973 a position he still holds today in the role of continued "on-the-job training."

The Lewis & Clark NRD has a record of significant achievements despite being one of the smallest Districts in the state in terms of size and valuation. During his term of employment there, Moser has administered the conservation cost share programs which provides over $100,000 annually to build conservation practices. He has guided the creation of the Cedar Knox Rural Water Project; which utilizes Lewis & Clark Lake as a source of drinking water for 670 rural homes and four communities; serving as administrative officer for treatment plant and pipeline system construction. The NRD will this year complete construction of the Aowa Creek Watershed Project which involves 50 flood and erosion control dams in northern Dixon County. Moser worked on almost all of those sites as land rights negotiator, project coordinator or contracting officer with NRCS providing design engineering and financial assistance. The last structure, the Powder Creek Project, will provide a “state of the art” Recreation Area with a 107-acre lake at a cost of nearly 2 million dollars.

Tom Moser credits a dedicated and cooperative NRD board of directors, an excellent supportive staff, and a mutual respect with agencies and contractors for the accomplishments that have been achieved. Tom and his wife Reta have been married for 30 years and have six children; Jennifer, Christina, Tim, Matt, Melissa and Andy. He also serves his community on the Hartington Tree Board, Cub scout Den Leader and as trustee for Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
