Lynn Muench

Lynn Muench joined the American Waterways Operators (AWO) as regional vice president in the spring of 2001, assuming the primary advocacy role on regional industry issues in AWO’s Midwest and Ohio Valley regions with the state legislatures and federal agencies. Her responsibilities include managing key inland river issues, such as the Missouri River Master Control Manual, interfacing with state regulatory and legislative personnel and the media, and working with the Coast Guard and Corps of Engineers on operational issues.

Before joining AWO, she worked extensively on the infrastructure needs of the Upper Mississippi River Basin as Vice President of the Midwest Area River Coalition 2000 in St. Louis. Prior to that, Ms. Muench spent over 18 years working as an agricultural consultant in product development and pesticide/water management in the southeastern U.S. and the Midwest. This wide-ranging agricultural background led to her passion -- transportation, with a focus on waterways infrastructure. Her articles on the barge industry and its impact on the Midwest’s economy have been published in several agricultural trade magazines.

Ms. Muench earned a B.S. in Agronomy and Adult Education from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and has completed class work for a M.S. in Management at the University of South Florida - Fort Myers. She lives in Saint Louis with her husband, Stephen.
