Richard Iverson
Culbertson, Montana
Richard Iversen was born and raised in Eastern Montana, very close to the Missouri River. He earned a BS degree in Range Science from Montana State University in Bozeman Mt in 1974.
Richard has spent over 30 years working for the NRCS-USDA in various capacities. In the past 15 years he has been designated by the NRCS State Office to represent the NRCS in the activities of the Lower Missouri River Coordinated Resource Management Council. He has had the opportunity to work on many projects the CRM has been involved in dealing with the Missouri River:
- Endangered species
- Stream bank erosion study conducted by the USDA_ARS National sedimentation Lab out of Oxford, Miss.
- Ice studies conducted with the US Army COE ice Regions Lab
- Various recreation surveys that were used to locate boat ramps along the Missouri River below Ft Peck Dam
- Extensive work with Ft Peck Tribes on various projects dealing with natural resource and irrigation.
Richard and his wife Connie own and operate (a portion is leased out to other operators) a diversified (crops, cattle, and hunting) agriculture operation in Richland County. The interest in this MRRIC Review Panel, stems from much of the history about Richard listed above. They own over 5 miles of Missouri River frontage near Culbertson, Mt. This is the area that has some of the last known area of Pallid Sturgeon habitat. The ranch has over 800 acres of irrigated lands adjacent to the Missouri River as well as some very high quality wildlife lands. Richard feels it is important to maintain the species we currently have as well as to maintain a viable agriculture base in Eastern Mt.
Richard also owns a cabin at the Pines Recreation Area along Ft Peck Lake and fully understands the value people put on quality recreation. He also owns, along the River property of the ranch, one of the best fishing holes for sauger, walleye and ling. This has given him an appreciation for quality fishing access.
