Karin Jacoby

Kansas City, Missouri

Ms. Jacoby is the Division Manager of Waterways in the Water Services Department for the City of Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to coming to Kansas City in 1995, Karin resided in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, where she was employed with a private consulting firm as a Design Engineer, and then as a Project Manager. Her design experience includes federal, state and local government projects such as flood insurance studies and highway design, public and private site development projects, and municipal work. Seeking a change from the private to the public sector, Karin moved to Kansas City to accept a position with the City’s Public Works Department. In March 1996 she began working as the City’s Project Manager for the Brush Creek and Blue River local flood control projects. She has continually sought to both broaden and refine the approach used to formulate, fund and execute these projects and others. For more than ten years Karin has continuously managed what has now become the City’s Waterways Division in increasing roles of responsibility.

Karin is the Executive Director of the MO-ARK Association, formerly known as the Missouri-Arkansas River Basin Association, whose purpose it is to seek beneficial use of water and land related resources. She is a founding Board member of Kansas City River Trails, a local nonprofit organization formed to support bicycle and pedestrian trails along streams and rivers in the bi-state Kansas City area. She is an active member of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE), and also belongs to the American Public Works Association (APWA). Karin recently completed her law degree and was admitted to the Missouri Bar, and prior to that she earned her Master’s Degree in Public Administration. She is a licensed Professional Engineer, having completed her undergraduate education in Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1985. While there she developed an appreciation for the environment and pretty good canoeing skills. She enjoys the outdoors and continues to be an avid camper, and especially enjoys fishing in the cold, clear streams of Missouri and Colorado.
