Larry Mires

Glasgow, Montana

Larry is a fourth generation Montanan, born and raised in Helena, Montana and currently living along the Montana Hi-Line in Glasgow, Montana.

Larry retired after 31 years as a Technology/Industrial instructor at Glasgow High School, receiving numerous accolades for his service to education and the community. He received his Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from MSU- Northern and continues educational opportunities related to economic development, environmental and water issues.

Larry serves as the Executive Director for the St. Mary Rehabilitation Working Group. As director of the St. Mary Rehabilitation project, Larry works closely with local stakeholders, the State of Montana, Tribal and Federal agencies, and state and national congressional officials to find a workable solution to rehabilitate the aging infrastructure while also addressing environmental concerns of the Blackfeet Nation. He is the immediate past director of Two Rivers Economic Growth, a non-profit economic development organization serving Glasgow and Valley County, Montana. He oversees renewable energy projects and serves as their natural resources specialist. He was recently appointed by Governor Brian Schweitzer to serve on the Department of Environmental Quality, Board of Review.

Larry, an entrepreneur and small business owner, has been instrumental in the formation of numerous partnerships of government agencies and the private sector; i.e., Coordinated Resource Management of the Lower Missouri River, Fort Peck Dam Interpretive Center and Museum, and Allies of Scouting to name a few. Along with the S. Mary Rehabilitation project, Larry is currently working with developers on the development of a 170 megawatt Valley County Wind Energy Project, and a University of Montana Paleontology Research Center to be located at Fort Peck Montana.
